A rare table ewer in 800‰ silver, dating to the 18th century and of Sicilian manufacture. Though small in size, the piece possesses remarkable artistic value, distinguished by its refined decoration and the precision of its silver engraving. Of particular note are the two ornamental miniatures, exquisitely fire-enameled, which adorn the sides of the body: on one side, Hannibal, the famed Carthaginian commander—symbol of strategy and determination; on the other, Saint Agatha, patron saint and protector of Catania, depicted according to traditional iconography, with a composed and hieratic expression, embodying faith and resilience. The work as a whole reflects the cultural richness and historical identity of 18th-century Sicily, uniting sacred art, historical memory, and goldsmith mastery in perfect harmony.
